Tie One On Day is coming !!!

Apron Memories.com
Do you know about "Tie One On" ?  I just love the concept!  I had totally planned on doing it again this year, but I'm going to be out of town.  We're going to The Dillard House (know where that is?   Love it for Thanksgiving!!!) I had half-seriously considered going ahead and doing it again and taking it with me on the trip to give to them.

If you've never heard of it, here's a little bit about it.  I had read about this a few years ago on Ellen Anne Geisel's site.  She's the author of The Apron Book and her website is called Apron Memories (love that!) .  It's one day to share with someone who might be in need of a kind gesture.

Here's what Ellyn has to say about it (I'm quoting directly from her blog):

"Four years ago, I noticed that Thanksgiving was talked about in terms more commonly associated with stress, than joy. I remembered my mother’s absolute love of Thanksgiving, as a day more than anything else of sharing and gratefulness. So I created National Tie One On Day™ as an annual opportunity to return the “give” to Thanksgiving by sharing our good fortune with someone in need of a kind gesture.

National Tie One On Day™ has nothing to do with purchasing anything special or even driving!

Participation is simple. On the day before Thanksgiving, November 24th this year, pause in the preparation of your own meal, wrap a loaf of bread or other baked good in an apron, tuck a prayer or note of encouragement in the pocket, and tie one on…an apron, of course! and deliver the wrapped bundle to someone without your bounty… a neighbor, friend or family member in need of physical or spiritual sustenance, a bit of recognition or just a kind word.

I know it to be true that whether you live in a high rise apartment building or on a quiet block, no matter which direction you walk out of your own front door, someone deserving of a gesture of kindness is close by.

National Tie One On Day™ is a win-win, for the participant and the receiver. By embracing National Tie One On Day™, you will make someone else’s day brighter."

Don't have an apron?  Can't make one or buy one?  No problem!  I (along with other women around the country) have been known to just buy...or make... a kitchen towel and wrap that up in it.  I got that idea from my friend Margy who is known for giving baked bread wrapped up in dishtowels.  Little did she know what she was inspiring!

So, I am presenting it to you, and if this is something you are interested in doing, I would LOVE to hear about it after Thanksgiving!   I know, there isn't much time... two days, but if you're baking anyway, how about throwing in another mix?  You never know what good may come from it.    I'm totally doing this again next year, but maybe I can live through you and your good deeds this year!  Just be sure to come back and either comment, or if you do, and blog about it, come back and leave a link to let us all know about it!

She has even provided a downloadable PDF file to print out a card to write your note of encouragement on.  Click here to go to that page.

Until then...

Flat Jeanette at the Relevant10 Conference! LOOK!

Do you remember my giveaway for Relevant10 Conference in PA?
How I was bummed that I couldn't go, and was doing a giveaway as a way to "bribe" someone to take "Flat Jeanette" and let me see it through them?

Well Jendi from Jendi's Journal and Simple Vlogging Tips put together a recap video from the conference and told me about it (on Twitter) because "I", that is - "flat jeanette" was in it for a brief shot! WooHoo! I rushed right over and watched...then I had to watch it again, because I was so engrossed in all the bloggers comments! LOL. Yep! There I was! There was the cutest baby at my table too!

See if you can spot me!

Celebrate! The women's event I attended today

Today was the annual women's event at my church called "Celebrate!"   Usually in November we kick off the season with "Simply Christmas", but this year we included all celebrations.  Ladies decorated their tables, and they were the "hostess" of their table for the event.  The tables were judged too! (prizes!  prizes!)  I didn't do a table.  I don't usually get to attend, because this is normally held the first week in November, which is either on or near my anniversary.   This year I was able to attend.    I took (as part of their Christmas present to them) my sister, Becky and my nephew's wife, Jodi.  My neice, Erin had to work so she wasn't able to join us.

It was a sold out event!

The ladies had just been let in the doors and they were discovering all the beautiful tables!
I just want to share with you the tables from today's event...

This one had the theme of breast cancer awareness

I had to get a close-up of the napkin...I just love what they did with the napkins!

I took this pic,and then....

They put favors on their plates!

This one was New Years...look how elegant!

The hostess of this table cross stitched placemats for everyone at her table! How adorable!!!

Everyone at this purple table had tiara to wear - that is so me!!!  LOL

I love these plates!  Does anybody know the pattern name?

(A closer look)

Betcha can't guess what celebration this is! LOL   I heard that everyone sitting at that table got a crocheted afgan (those hanging off the backs of the chairs!)  WOW!!!

I meant to sneak over afterwards and see what was in all those golden gift boxes!

I just loved the "cake" made out of flowers!

Yes, that's a diaper cake as the centerpiece!  Love it!

You see those "beads" in the smaller flower vases (with the carnations) - those are edible strawberry whoppers!  Who knew?!?  btw, they were delicious!

There you have it - the tablescapes from Celebrate!  I can't remember who won what - sorry - but in my opinion, they were all winners!
There were demos and speakers (I'll share some of the tips and ideas in a later post) My camera battery died so Jodi helped me out by taking some pictures with her phone camera of the demonstrations. (Thanks Jodi for rescuing me!)
