Re-Use that Ketchup Bottle

I love honey.  My sister gave me a gallon of honey recently.  The gallon jug isn't easy to handle, so I wanted to pour it into something more "user friendly".  I tried those cute bear bottles, but those don't hold enough, and I end up collapsing the flimsy plastic bottle after several fill-ups.  What to do...   enter the ketchup bottle!

This is probably not a new idea, but it's new to me, so allow me to live in my fantasy world and think that I, alone, had this wonderful idea.  At least for a little bit.

I just washed out the ketchup bottle (thank goodness there were no lingering smells.  As much as I love ketchup, I don't like to co-mingle it with honey)  and viola!  My new honey dispenser.   Since it's a no-drip cap, it's perfect for the honey too!

So, tell me, what have you repurposed?  I'd love to hear.  Please share in the comments, or if you have done a blog post, leave a link there so we can all come visit!

  3. My mother and I had a funny conversation about this over the weekend. She brought up the fact that when she finds really good, sturdy katsup or mustard containers, she just refills them over and over. She said the worst thing is when someone picks up her bottle and freaks out when the date on the container is like 4 years old. lol This is a good idea though. Those jars I get my honey in are super messy and hard to control.

    1. Oh Kim! You got me laughing. I was thinking about that expiration date when I was cleaning the bottle and trying to scrape it off !! Sometimes I get luck and the ink comes off, but that's usually on glass jars.

  4. What a fabulous idea, it always seems a shame to throw away ketchup bottles and they're even tricky to recycle as getting dried ketchup out is near impossible!

  5. I repurpose everything I can. One that might help you out, is those small juice bottles. I purchase orange juice in the small sturdy bottles. When the bottle is empty, I wash it. When I make my sweet tea (2 gallons at a time), I rinse all the little bottles in the hottest tap water my water heater can deliver and fill them with the cold tea and put the bottle cap on. These small bottles fit in the little nooks and crannies the fridge has a lot better than the 2 gallon jug I used to use. Another benefit is, no more spills or drips of sweet tea in the fridge. :)
